4 Comments Monday’s Musings: A Full Human Life
Time lost is time when we have not lived a full human life, time unenriched by experience, creative endeavor, enjoyment, and suffering.
~Dietrich Bonhoeffer
There have been many times in my life when I have lived “in a fog” or by “just getting through the day.” I existed for many years without really feeling connected to the world around me, partly as a result of a difficult childhood and from my battles with postpartum and clinical depression, and more recently from being consumed by my son’s difficulties with a physical problem at birth and later his diagnosis with autism.
I am so thankful now for being able to connect with friends and develop my interests, as well as the opportunity to use what I have been through to help others in similar situations. More recently, the Lord has been healing some old wounds and helping me to (slowly) become the wife and mom I want to be.
On a side note, I was intrigued to learn more about Dietrich Bonhoeffer and his philosophy after reading about his involvement in the German resistance movement against the Nazis, which led to his incarceration and subsequent execution. I especially liked an article by Douglas Huff in The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, which outlines his thoughts on ethics. Four words, “What would Jesus do?”

There is a documentary about him that can be purchased at the Family Bookstore. It is excellent.
Interesting musings!
I didn’t want to read yours until I finished mine…which obviously was later in the day!
I can relate on many levels – some of which I wrote about today.
I like how you summarized his philosophy.
Thanks, TCC!
cajunchic – I will look into the documentary; I appreciate the suggestion.
