Success Sunday: Great and Noble Tasks

Success Sunday Banner

“I long to accomplish great and noble tasks, but it is my chief duty to accomplish humble tasks as though they were great and noble. The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.”
–Helen Keller

I came across this quote recently and was really drawn to it. It also seemed to tie into what I wrote about motherhood for TCC’s Monday’s Musings last week. Sometimes motherhood becomes frustrating and draining when we are dreaming of what we imagine to be “great and noble tasks” and forget that each act of service, teaching, correction and encouragement to our children builds on the next to lay a strong foundation for the next generation and that this is, in and of itself, great and noble.

Whether it’s as a mom, an employee, a friend or a volunteer, I often wonder if anything I do really makes a difference, but I think Keller’s point is that all of us working together is what changes the world.

By the way, Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms out there – I hope you have a very blessed day!
