As a follow to last week’s post at 5MFSN about our experience with church attendance in the last few years, I am sharing today about how our special needs ministry has gotten started and what we are doing to welcome the children with special needs, and their families, to our church. Please visit me there to find out more!

I love your special needs ministry! I am advocating for a special needs ministry in our church. So far we have had three special needs services that were very successful. One was at Easter, one at Christmas, and one this summer. I am a special education teacher and a mother of a very sweet son with cerebral palsy. I made picture schedules for the children to follow the service with. A mother with an autistic child made a social story to prepare the children, and an occupational therapist made a sensory “take a break” room. I am hoping to get a Sunday school program started.
If you have any more information concerning Sunday school please let me know! I love what I’ve seen so far.
God Bless you all for including our special children!
Nina
That’s awesome that you have been able to get the whole church involved. It sounds like you have done a lot! I would definitely recommend reading some of the posts at The Inclusive Church – Amy has tons of information on how to actually do special needs ministry in a church setting.
