What Is Acceptance?

Does accepting something mean resigning yourself to believe that it will always be the way it is now and that it is wrong to hope for something different or better? Or might there be another way to look at it?

Well, the word acceptance really does mean that we approve of or believe in something, but it is interesting to consider it from a perspective how things are and how we want them to be. I think I am far more patient, now, as I grow older and realize that many things change in time, even if it is only our attitude about them. With that in mind I can approach situations I don’t believe are the best with hope that as I work consistently over time toward the ideal I am seeking, things will change or I will change or something good will come of the situation.

I think acceptance means we’re ready to feel gratitude for the lesson. Acceptance is freeing, because you realize that whatever it is that you have to accept, it’s the very best thing that could have happened at that moment. A gift.

Acceptance is a process for me. I am always surrendering, accepting and then doing it all over again.
