One of the bloggers I found during the Ultimate Blog Party, A Spirited Mind, posts each week about one of the books she has read (you can see the 2010 posts here), and I thought that would be a nice idea since I used to do book reviews more frequently and just got lazy about it.
I read a lot, mostly books from the library, and sometimes I will take whatever I can grab quickly so I am not left without something to read. To me, not having books in the house is the equivalent of not having any chocolate in the house – in other words, not a good thing! I say that to warn you that not everything I read is “great literature” and I will let you make your own judgments from there.
This week I have read:Family Affair: A Novel by Caprice Crane
~ This is the only non-Christian book from my stack this week. It was an enjoyable read with an interesting look at how getting along too well with your spouse’s family isn’t always beneficial to your marriage. Definitely a good reminder to keep your priorities straight!
Here Burns My Candle: A Novel by Liz Curtis Higgs
~ I really enjoyed this one as well. I hope my saying this isn’t a spoiler, but I didn’t realize until almost the end that it was based on the story of Naomi and her two daughters-in-law from the book of Ruth. The fact that I didn’t recognize it right away actually impressed me, although it could be that I was just being dense when I read it!
The Hidden Flame (Acts of Faith Book 2) by Davis Bunn & Jeanette Oke
~ Having read the first book in this series, The Centurion's Wife
, and being a longtime fan of Janette Oke, I expected this to be a good book and was not disappointed. I highly recommend this novel based on the early church.
Paper Roses (Texas Dreams Trilogy #1) by Amanda Cabot
~ This wouldn’t be at the top of my list, but it had its moments and was at least interesting enough to keep me reading.
Leah's Choice (Pleasant Valley Book One) by Marta Perry
~ I’m a sucker for books set in the Amish community, and this one dealt a lot with issues of young adults choosing to stay or go when it’s time to join the church. I really liked the main character and will likely continue reading the series when more books come out.
So for what it’s worth, there are my quick thoughts on my weekly reads. I’d love to hear what you think about the reviews or about this as a topic for my blog (interesting or not?). And I definitely welcome your recommendations for my next trip to the library!

I used to be an avid reader and like you, not having books around was just unthinkable. I have less time now for reading as I spend more time on the computer (reading blogs lol). Some good suggestions there and some that would interest me:) Jen.
