I am so incredibly thrilled to share with you that Dr. Tony Attwood is coming to the Harrisburg, PA area for a one-day conference on Wednesday, October 20th. If you are anywhere within a reasonable traveling distance, I would highly recommend you make the trip for this one!
Dr. Attwood is an internationally respected expert on Asperger’s Syndrome and autism, and he will speaking throughout the day on Making Friends and Managing Feelings. Here is a sampling of the topics to be covered:
- Improve social understanding among individuals with Asperger’s and their peers
- Implement strategies to reduce bullying and teasing
- Help students manage anxiety, anger, and other emotions
- Recognize abilities and challenges in girls with Asperger’s
- Utilize special interests to foster education
- Responsibly and effectively advise individuals with Asperger’s on friendships and relationships
If you aren’t familiar with Dr. Attwood, you should be! Seriously, though, he has written The Complete Guide to Asperger Syndrome, which is one of the premier books on this topic. As my son has progressed towards what many would call “high functioning autism,” I have found this book to be very helpful in understanding and addressing issues that have arisen.
This conference is sponsored by Future Horizons, publisher of many quality books on autism, Asperger’s and sensory processing disorder. You can call 1-800-489-0727 to register or register online. I will be attending the conference as part of the Future Horizons blogging team and posting about what I learned afterwards, as well, so stay tuned!

That’s great. I’m sure you’ll get so much out of it. Can’t wait to read….
Hi My name is Wynter, I am a Mommy of 2 little boys on the spectrum. My husband and I had the privilege to hear Tony Attwood at our Autism Conference here in MT. Our boys also have progressed to the higher functioning side of Autism and we loved listening to Tony. He was so interesting and he really knew how to make things understandable for me and my family in order for us to relate to our boys. In facts after the day was over we were wondering about ourselves. lol I know that anyone who makes the effort to go will not be disappointed.
I know how you feel. When he was talking about girls with Aspergers, I
almost cried because I felt like he was describing my childhood. There are
definitely some traits in me that fit the picture he was painting!
I am planning to blog about what I learned but just have not had a moment to
sit down and put the words together.
