This group of mini reviews includes several books that I put on my list after seeing them recommended by other bloggers. I have mentioned them below and am going to do my best to keep tracking that sort of thing for myself in the future as well (hopefully I will remember to do it!).
Delightfully Different by DS Walker
I loved this truly delightful novel about a young girl growing up with Asperger’s Syndrome and would highly recommend it to both young and old. You can read my full review and also enter to win a copy of the book here. (Giveaway open until April 28th at 5:00 pm EST.)
Lydia’s Charm by Wanda E. Brunstetter
I haven’t been reading as much Amish fiction lately, but I did enjoy this book about a young widowed mother who moves to another state to live with her mother and grandfather. If you like this type of book, Brunstetter is one of the best in this genre.
Just Jane (Ladies of History Series #2) by Nancy Moser
I have really enjoyed this entire series of historical novels. I can tend to be wary of books that involve Jane Austen, but this one does a nice job of giving a sense of the way things might have been without copying too much of the author’s original language or voice. I actually had seen this one mentioned at Home With Purpose in February and decided to pick it up from the library for myself.
Deep Down True: A Novel by Juliette Fay
I remembered liking Juliette Fay’s previous novel, Shelter Me, quite a bit, so I was intrigued when I read a review of this one at mommablogsalot.com. Although it took me a bit longer to become fully immersed in the story, in the end I thought this was a very strong showing and really appreciated the depth of the relationships and characters portrayed in the book.
The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards
I have seen this book mentioned a few times and, after reading a review of it at bekahcubed, decided I needed to add it to my list. I am so glad I did; this was a gripping example of how we can allow the hurts and beliefs from our past to influence the decisions we make, which can then have far-reaching implications on all those involved.
You can see all the books I’ve finished so far this year on the bookshelf on my Books page or read all of my mini reviews by clicking on the 2011 Reads tag. I am also joining in on the Spring Reading Thing hosted by Callapidder Days, and you can see my list of what I plan to read this spring at my SRT11 post.
