About the Book
Slip into romance in this eagerly anticipated book 3 of bestselling author Wanda E. Brunstetter’s Brides of Lehigh Canal series. Widowed Sarah Turner has her hands full, raising three young children, tending the lock on the canal, baking bread, and washing clothes for boatmen. Although she’s not looking for love, she’s vowed not to lose her heart to a boatman. Yet she didn’t count on meeting Captain Elias Brooks. Will she follow her heart where it leads or accept the proposal of a handsome land-loving blacksmith?
My Thoughts
Having read a number of Wanda Brunstetter’s books focusing on the Amish, I was intrigued when she began writing a series with a different historical setting – the Lehigh Canals. It was fascinating to learn a bit about the culture of that time and place, and I enjoyed this book as much as the first two.
Although this is certainly lighter fare overall, it makes a pretty good showing within the genre of Christian historical romantic fiction. I appreciated that the two main characters were already settled in their faith, as that is so often not the case in Christian romance novels.
All in all, a nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon!
Note: This is Book #51 of my 2011 Reads (master list here). Up until now, I have been posting my reviews for each group of 5, but I decided to start posting them individually from now on.

This sounds interesting to me, especially since I used to walk by those canals!!
