Spending Our Loot

willow on cave

You all are probably already tired of seeing pictures of our cats, but I wanted to show off the first purchase we made with money from selling stuff on Craigslist! (That’s Willow lying on top of the little cave, and Wallace coming over to see if she wants to play.)

They’re Friends Again!

I had shared back in March that we adopted a cat from a family in our church. Well, a couple of months later, they asked if we would consider also taking his sister. We agreed to take her on a trial basis and worried a bit as she was hissing and fighting with her brother whenever he would try to approach.

But slowly they have been becoming friends again, and have even deigned to share a sleeping spot with each other occasionally!

A Scrapbook, A Cat and A Fever

What a busy, but good week!  For those of you that liked the scrapbook preview, I posted a slideshow of all the pages over at Another Piece of the Puzzle.  I was so pleased that Michael really liked it.

We also ended up with a surprise birthday present – a new cat!  When I was at Moms In Action Tuesday morning, there was an announcement that one of the members had a four year old white cat they needed to find a new home for.  Michael had been asking for a cat a while ago, and we had almost gotten one at Christmastime but weren’t 100% sure about it, so let the matter drop.  This seemed like the perfect scenario and great timing, with it being Michael’s birthday that day, so I called Bob to see what he thought.

He suggested we go over that night to see the cat, so we did, and we ended up bringing him home with us on Tuesday!  The cat has been renamed Prince Wallace, or Wally for short, and he is settling in pretty well.  He loves to be petted and brushed, and he also enjoys playing with the little toy mouse on a string that we bought for him.  Another great “toy” that he like to chase is the flashlight beam!  White hair is definitely a change from the black-haired cat we had before.  He shedded too, but this is more obvious on our clothes.

Michael woke up sick today.  He climbed into our bed this morning and was complaining that he was trying to wake up but his eyes wouldn’t stay open.  At first I thought he was just still tired, but then I felt his forehead and he was burning up!  I tried to take his temperature but neither of the thermometers we have are working, so I just gave him some Children’s Motrin.

He is feeling a bit better now but still a little warm and very emotional.  Bob has been reading to him from the Chronicles of Narnia, hoping that he will drop off to sleep.  He is very disappointed to have missed soccer, as today was the second of five practices in the winter session of TOPSoccer.

We got several things done around the house yesterday, and I am hoping to keep the momentum going today.  Plus Bob & I have a movie from Netflix to watch – One Night with the King – and then there’s the Amazing Race tonight.  I may even get a couple of blog posts written; we’ll see how it goes.

New Member of the Family

Michael has been talking about wanting a cat for a while, and yesterday I heard about this kitty, who has been living in a bathroom for the last few days,

stubby-1

because of this doggy, and needed a new home.

So, last night we went to meet him, and now…

he is living under our bed!

Actually, he is very friendly and lovable, just a tiny bit nervous still about Michael after living with a toddler and a baby. His name is Stubby (long story), but we are still deciding if we are going to change it or not.

It has been over three years since we said goodbye to the cat we got from my mom right when we got married, and I am really looking forward to having a pet again.

Adopting the Older Child & Getting a Pet

pet-duck

Okay, I was looking around for a picture or cartoon that said “Gotcha!” but then I found this adorable picture titled, So you’re thinking of getting a pet duck? by tifotter. (Seriously, though, she does not recommend it; you can read her funny but true list of reasons why not to get a duck as a pet at Mr Flapper Duck.)

Okay, now back to my post.

No, we are not adopting an older child or getting a pet, at least not at the moment. Getting a Pet is the topic of today’s Try This Tuesday post over at 5MFSN, and, although we are talking about it, we are far from making a decision at this point.

And Adopting the Older Child is the name of a blog where I was recently asked to write about my decision to start taking Michael to a psychologist. The blog’s author often encourages her readers to seek the help of a therapist for both counseling and the practical advice they can provide during the adoption process and once the child is in their new home and family.

Even though we are not in an adoption situation, she thought our experience might be helpful to her readers, so she sent me an email and the rest is history. You can read my post here: Deciding to See a Psychologist. While you’re there, check out some of the great resources on this blog, such as:
